Modern Life Is Rubbish

For those without a functioning brain some basic reminders on general hygiene are not wasted.

Some people should not be allowed out of the supermarket toilets until they have washed and dried their hands, before proceeding to select their veg and groceries.

Do you not believe that the airborne viruses that surround us also land on surfaces.

There was much debate on how long the Covid virus could remain active on various surfaces.

The combined expertise of the worlds virologists and scientific community, distilled into one sentence:

"The single most useful thing we can all do to support our nhs and stop the spread of Coronavirus is to wash our hands 2 times happy birthday, hot water and soap

march 3rd 2020"

How did that work out.

That veg came out of the ground, wouldn't worry too much about what's on your hands. Supermarket toilets are best avoided.

It worked out well as an interim measure alongside masks and distancing

You are cordially invited to the funeral of personal responsibility :

"Jacobite steam service [tourist train from Fort William to Mallaig in Scotland] suspended after concerns over door locking safety"

The ORR (Office of Rail Regulation] indicated carriage vestibules were not being managed properly and the inspector said someone could fall out from the doors of a train or that  a person leaning out of an open droplight of a moving train may be struck as the train passed infrastructure, including vegetation, rock cuttings and earthworks.

Stewards are not preventing passengers from operating the secondary door locks, or preventing passengers from leaning out of the train doors or out of the opening droplight windows.

(Railway Magazine Aug 2023 p6)

Plus https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-66271357

Timeline

1830 - First inter city rail service [without central locking of doors and with opening windows]

1951 - Mk1 coaches (as used on the Jacobite service) introduced [without central locking of doors and with opening windows]

2005 - Central door locking mandated [175 years since the 1st inter city service, 54 years since the introduction of the  Mk1 coach]

2019 - Opening windows banned on mainline trains [189 years since the 1st inter city service]

Some people would say that if anyone is stupid enough to open a door whilst the train is moving (when it is out of a station and/or travelling at more than walking pace), or lean out of a train window without first checking it's safe, that's Darwin's theory working right there.

Don't dumb us all down just because a tiny number of people haven't got the sense they were born with.....

BTW, that bloke leaning out of the train widow below is not doing anything dangerous at the location he is doing it, not if you are using any reasonable definition of the word "safe".

I'd be doing the same thing given half a chance.

I do think it's very significant that even Annie Bynnol does not seem to agree with this cancellation of The Jacobite.

Agreed although not sure about the chorus of Happy Birthday.

Still it makes a point like singing Staying Alive whilst performing CPR.

how do you know, surely the fact that it was airborne would have been a more useful message to communicate.

the virologists at the time said masks were futile.  please clarify how the public are to determine what is fact, and what is conjecture, when the 'experts' disagree and change their mind constantly.

They did say it was airbourne and that drops can remain on surfaces. The common cold is airborne. Do you not bother with basic hygiene with a cold?

Masks were not said to be futile. It was said that depending on the mask, some can be more effective than others but the message was something is better than nothing.

Again, experts learn and improve their advice when they know more.

It seems that your logic is that as experts don't get it right first time then we can ignore everything they say going forward

your memory doesn't match with the facts, I've just quoted the PM, no mention of airborne, there was more informed speculation on this forum, than was coming out of our experts.

people wearing masks were openly mocked on tv and elsewhere by virologists, and tv doctors.

I expect experts to know what they are talking about, if they make it up as they go along, they are no better than the general public

Are you seriously suggesting that viruses don’t spread via surfaces? Or that hand washing isn’t an important component of infection control?
