Modern Life Is Rubbish

If you're trying to find someone, don't know what their new identity is but do have a photo of them, it's a lot easier to do with a reverse image search. Instead of trawling through images yourself, you can ask Google to do it for you.

It's not about pedos. It's about violent ex partners who are trying to find their kids and ex partner after the authorities considered them to be such a high risk of harm that they have relocated them and given them new identities.

Every 4 years or so the entire World comes together at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, et al, to witness stunning gymnastic performances by children.

Do you think parents should be banned from photographing these performances?

Do you think it "compounds" the vulnerability risk?

Not really, at worst some females will be 15 and a half, the rules changed years ago

Stop Press.

It seems I am not "out on a limb", and "being unreasonable" wanting to video my child swimming in a gala.

Swim England's policy on photography in galas :

Swim England do not wish to stop parents photographing their children if they wish at their “moments of glory” but all clubs have to ensure they do all we can to safeguard childrenʼs well being in the current climate of concern.

I am in two minds  about this actually.

The first half is fine, but the second half could be taken to ban almost anything. In fact it is inconsistent with the first if taken to the sort of extremes which all this sort of stuff undoubtedly is. Particularly worrying is the phrase "do all we can", which is the thin end of a very long wedge. It could be said "Swim England" are not doing anyway, they would have to ban all adults from attending any swimming pool at any time that kids are in it. that would technically be "doing all we can".

The last few words sum up the paranoia existing in modern society : "in the current climate of concern".

Furthermore, very sadly, some pools apparently stop photography at galas regardless of Swim England's policy, and a gala is technically a private event.

Are you suggesting it is fine for the whole world to photograph and/or video any sporting event so long as the participants are over fifteen and a half, but not if they are under that age ?

This isn't the soddin' sexual age of consent.

It's  sport, they aren't naked, and it certainly isn't anything pornographic.

No, thats not what I said at all. I posted a link clarifying the minimum age set by the gymnastics governing body. Dont put words in my mouth/on my keyboard, please.

The poster on the last page clearly thought you were still getting 12 year old Romanian gymnasts pitching up at the Olympics, I was just putting him right.

added the word "gymnasts" before the pedants appear to point out the British lass who won a skateboarding medal was about 13

You think those fleeing violent relatives, who've been deemed at risk enough to have been given new identities by the authorities, are going to take part in high profile public events and risk their new identities being linked to their old ones! :loopy:

They and their kids should stay away from public and publicised events.

They likely do!

So what's the problem?  :)

My point still has validity :

We are living in a paranoid age, and, if anything, it's getting worse.......

What is most depressing about this whole farce is some people appear to be taking the view that it is the parents wanting to film their kids who are some how being selfish and unreasonable. This is ludicrous, particularly in the case of swimming galas and other sporting events as I would bet pounds to pennies that the vast majority of the parents (of those competing) would want to photo / film their kids racing. So we have a group of self appointed "guardians" telling other people what to do when they have nothing to do with it anyway. It's disusting.
