Do you ever read threads properly before you comment? If not, I suggest you do.

I'm not 'being nasty', merely suggesting you read a topic before posting.

Schemes look good on paper, implementing them takes a bit of professionalism

All construction projects have risks, which can materialise and adversely affect the project no matter how much you’ve planned and how good and professional your team is.

It’s the nature of building things.

Was the grant specifically for metal containers ?

Roads at Crookes.

The grant was for a much wider project to improve Fargate. The containers are a small

part of it and the council will have some leeway on exactly what elements are delivered in the overall project.

Roads at Crookes have been closed off as part of a low traffic neighbourhood scheme aimed at helping people to walk and cycle more and cut out the detrimental effects of through traffic. Improved air quality may be a benefit from this on some streets but the primary aim of the scheme isn’t to improve air quality, so your assertion that roads have been closed in the interests of air quality is incorrect.

We have had this discussion before but if reducing pollution is not the purpose of the schemes what really is the purpose. It just moves cars to the next street and I firmly doubt if it will make many people change their habits.

Who does the 'thinking'?

And once they have the  money, is the actuality in line with the scheme?

The government won’t fund the scheme unless they feel it meets their funding priorities.

The government funding is usually allocated to city regions ( ie the mayoral combined authority), who carry out the programme and project governance. The scheme promoter has to develop and submit to the CA a business case in several stages which cover the development of the scheme from problem identification, through optioneering, preliminary and detailed design and delivery.

The outputs of the project are agreed with the government and the CA and  are reported throughout the project lifecycle. Any changes have to be reported and agreed through a change management process.
