Airport Delays

Agree,  but with hindsight it might have been at least 2 hrs before the flight, and the arrival time was at the passenger's request.

Current problems appear to be due to holiday time?

Yes, a lot of flights leave at 6am due to air traffic restrictions. That seems to be the main time people are having problems for.

Could it be the staff  have found other jobs and or do not intend to return to the industry after the height of the pandemic.

Some of the jobs are crap pay, crap hours and the airport are wondering why they can't fill roles.

I head Bristol airport lost a fairly significant number of staff recently due to pay complaints.

Indeed. There's now a shortage of pilots, and shortage of crew, plus regulations limiting working hours. Add in a long weekend and halfterm which has caused a huge uptake of holidays, and a crappy airports which needs  major upgrades and you get chaos.

The solutions are fairly simple but will take a while to work through the system.

This is the root of most ground staff issues at Manchester.

Low pay.

Unpleasant working environment.

Incompetent management.

Greed that got rid of experienced staff.

All this within a sector disaster whereby airports have become managed as cash-cows rather than efficient transport hubs.

We’ve had some terrible delays in normal times, I daren’t even attempt to imagine what heights of incompetence the carriers could reach these days.

Whatever they do, you can be sure of one thing - the Governement will get the blame.  First for the Covid lockdowns being too strict, then the Red Flag countries being too many, then not opening up quick enough.  I wonder what the new excuse is?

Manchester East Midlands stanstead and Bournemouth airports are all owned by Manchester airports group which in turn is over 60 percent owned by the 10 greater Manchester councils

might this be one reason for the ongoing disarray ?

Other airports are also affected. Bristol and Leeds to name but two.
