Meritocracy V 'Positive Discrimination'

Recommended Posts

Not that I think the sex of a political leader is of any relevance whatsoever, but :

Woman leaders  of the main political parties :

The Labour party with its (now illegal) all women shortlists* = 0

The Tory party = 3

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Woman prime minister :

The Labour party with its (now illegal) all women shortlists* = 0

The Tory party = 3

* And always banging on about minority rights and feminism etc

You can sit back and relax for a bit.

Watch Liz being driven around in her new Audi A8, whilst she removes speed limits on motorways.

Labour has more female MPs and obviously a much higher percentage of female MPs than the Conservatives.

That for me is a more telling statistic.

It would seem that the current batch of male Tory MPs have proved ineffective and alllowed May and Truss In by default.

Given your thread title is "Meritocracy V 'Positive Discrimination'", I'd say only one of the Tory female leaders/PMs counts as having got there through merit (Thatcher). The others might not have got there trough positive discrimination but it certainly wasn't though merit.

TBH I do not give a toss whether our PM, or my MP, is a woman or not, why should I ?

And that is the ultimate proof of not being discriminatory.

Err no, it was Labour that had (and probably still has) discriminatory selection policies. And I thought they are now deemed illegal !

True. But I'm not sure that it matters much who leads  the Labour Party unless and until it's a credible  alternative for being elected to govern the UK. Still, it's odd that its plethora of females [see RJRB's note that "Labour has more female MPs and obviously a much higher percentage of female MPs than the Conservatives."] has never yet produced a female leader. Why's that?

Everything is relevant. Will voters be more likely to vote for a beautiful/ugly, black/white/brown, obese//slim, bald/combover/hairy?

Everything is relevant.

I believe beautiful people tend to be more intelligent.

Me neither, but you were trying to make a point regarding the position of women in the major parties which doesn’t stand scrutiny,

Why raise the subject?
