Findlay
Lets see how long Wizz will last at LBA with those sheer winds which is one of the reasons I avoid using that airport. Peel have shown how incompetent they are at running regional airports and should be made to sell them back for the pound they bought them for. There are thousands of highly qualified aircraft and airport workers from South Yorkshire that are employed in Doncaster and the rest of the UK's major airports. They would all love the chance to make a much better job, and those that work at far away airports, would welcome the opportunity to be nearer home. Airports are not about holiday flights, there is business travel, training, freight, air ambulance, special construction, aerial inspection, resource facilities and mobilisation. Hmmmm Short queues mean no passengers meaning not viable. Friendly staff was another, Hmm low passenger numbers meaning they have time for people unlike busy airports. Cause and effect at work. Cause and effect at work. ^^^^^^ absolutely this. Was about to say something similar. I did find it very convenient timing when the award got announced, but when you read in to it, it's no wonder it won. Yes of course it has flawless service, short queues and less crowded facilities when it only deals with less than a third of the number of passengers of its nearest rival. Perhaps the survey should have asked said passengers when they would be prepared to pay three four times cost of the plane tickets in order to maintain such low numbers of footfall and thus such exquisite personalised service. Whatever award they give it, doesn't detract from the fact that over its tenure, the airport failed to attract a single big-name scheduled airline to operate any substantial and profitable services from it. The chance to grab a big budget carrier has gone, and it's nearest rivals can and are doing far better with far more established passenger numbers. Now can we just let this thing die with some dignity instead of prolonging the agony. Simply throwing money at it to keep it desperately propped up for another year is going to achieve nothing.
HeHasRisen
The final ever passengers due to arrive at the airport between 8 and 9 this evening, TUI from Tenerife South and then Hurgada the two final arrivals. Departures closed last week. Website absolutely no mention of this, other than the live arrivals board. HeHasRisen
"could be". Unless they attract Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2 and/or have more than one TUI plane based there, its a non starter anyway. And you have to question how many of those airlines want to shove a load of planes there given their bases at nearby airports.
