Doncaster Sheffield Airport Could Permanently Close

What are the other ways of getting from Sheffield to  this airport?

Genuine question.

Surely there must be some sort of public transport, a bus or train perhaps?

Nearest train station to the airport is Doncaster itself. The Doncaster-Lincoln line goes near it but after Doncaster the first stop is Gainsborough, and there are only 4 trains a day iirc.

There are some buses to the terminal from Doncaster. Certainly nothing direct from Sheffield.

Suppose if helps when you barely have any flights to create problems.

If you had 6 full flights leaving within an hour that departure lounge wouldnt be fit for purpose imo.

No doubt you're right but if that was the case then surely facilities would be enlarged just like they have been at other airports over the years. The problem appears to be encouraging airlines to use the place and hence widening the destinations available to travellers.

echo.

Far more Northern (and despite their ongoing reduced timetable) Trans Pennine Express services between Doncaster and Sheffield than Cross Country (who currently only run 4 trains per day between Doncaster and Sheffield!).

You think people really want first class for a 20 min train ride (no freebies, no meal,  nothing) after getting off a flight no longer than 4 and a bit hours?

Its a dealbreaker for absolutely nobody. Anyone who cared about that kind of thing a) wouldnt be flying out of a crummy regional airport with barely any flights, or b) would be picked up from the doors of the terminal.

No First Class on Northern though, if you are travelling off a long flight you might want those facilities. TransPennine trains are having a lot of cancellations at the moment, driver issues IIRC.

It mignt have been re-numbered. The Finningley bus definitely runs through the airport grounds, regardless of what number.

91 route scrapped and 57 Cantley route extended, says a bus fan on Google.

Was always a bumpy ride on the 69, especially through Brinsworth!

It wouldn't be very bumpy In Brinsworth at all. The nearest it went to there was Tinsley. Surprised our transport "expert" didn't know that.

Yes, it was definitely the 91 when I caught it to Finningley.

That shows how recently that was then. It changed over 2 years ago.
