I mean, have they actually talked to any major airlines about if they would use it?

Oh dear! :(

Doncaster Sheffield Airport could reopen as council agrees rescue plan

Those 2 words in the same sentence that send a shiver down the spines of people across the city...

... "Council" and "Plan"! :hihi:

Now maybe Anna meant the WIDEST runway, which it may well be, not bothering to check as its a meaningless metric really. A380s can land on runways much narrower than the one at DSA.

Certainly was wide for when the V bomber squadron used to scramble. Lived a few miles down the road in the early 60's.

And each have a bigger (and certainly in the case of Manchester and Leeds, more affluent) population on their doorstep.

If you lived in the SE of Leeds or the SW of Bradford then getting to Leeds Bradford airport is not as easy as you would think...

In fact if I had a blank piece of paper and could site Leeds Bradford airport any where, the present location would be just about the worst, other than for people living in NW Leeds and NE Bradford.

Not only is it no where near a motorway it isn't even anywhere near a dual carriageway ! !

And yet pre-covid 4 million passengers a year managed to use it without too much difficulty and numbers are heading back in that direction. It is accessible to residents of the  affluent area to the N of Leeds and Bradford without them having to navigate either city.

That may or may not be the case, but we are discussing alternative airports to Doncaster, and the fact remains that Leeds Bradford is not easy to get to at all. Unless you live in NW Leeds or NE Bradford.....

Bearing in mind LB is close to a huge number of people 4 Million is not much compared to Manchester's 2019 figure of over 29 million. In 2019 even EM airport (with a smaller nearby  catchment) got more than LB did, 4.7 million. Much of that is down to LB's appalling road connections, neither has it got a railway station or even a tram station.

Population of West Yorks is 2.3 million. Easy Midlands has a population of a couple of million more,

That's my point. The immediate catchment area of Leeds Bradford airport is far greater than East Midlands airport, so the fact that the latter actually has more passengers speaks volumes about how inconvenient LB airport's location is !
