Read through all posts and not seen mentioned the experience I've had during my treatment for Prostate Cancer.

I am under the hospital at Chesterfield.

On Wednesday I had a camera inserted up my penis which like the camera is very small !!!!

No blockage I was told, an appointment forthcoming to explore further options.

I had that procedure around 3 years ago with 3 male nurses in the room.

On Wednesday there 3 young female nurses present.

No problem, I will put up with anything if it extends my life by a few more years

PS  I have been drinking a glass of let down Pomegranite juice first thing in the morning

Found that advice on the web, does it help, I don't know, but it tastes OK

Thank's for the update Mr. R.

Best wishes from me.

We have still got a long way to go before cancer is a thing of the past but for now thanks to better treatment and technology survival rates are definitely increasing.  Also people doing  their bit checking for lumps and bumps.

I have only just seen this thread. I don’t have cancer but was a nurse for many years. People pull the health service to pieces but I think it is wonderful. I know with the doctors strikes and the long waiting lists people get frustrated, but Weston Park hospital is one of the finest there is.

I couldn't agree more Patricia. They are magnificent from start to finish. It;s a daunting diagnosis but anyone needing treatment should know they are in very very good hands. The difference I think is the more generous funding thanks to various charities and the army of volunteers, many of whom have had Cancer, got the Tshirt, and want to give something back. Staff ratios are higher, perks and treats to keep your spirits up abound, and nothing is too much trouble.  Specialist nurses are also very good at managing  your natural anxieties and everyone from the cleaners to the consultants are made of the right stuff..

The NHS at its finest!

If only it all was like thiis.

  • 4 months later...

I went through treatment for colorectal cancer a few years ago while also managing type 2 diabetes. Balancing both was tough, and on top of that, I had to deal with the Health Insurance with Diabetes, which added another layer of challenge. But luckily, and I'm very grateful, my care team helped me manage the side effects and keep my diabetes under control. Thankfully, I’m now in remission and my diabetes is well-managed. Wishing you all strength ❤️

To night I start treatment for prostrate cancer , I have decided to record my experiences over the coming months , I am doing this because it may help other who are in similar circumstance a.   I also  do not want any sympathy or hand wringing  due to my illness , This started over  12 months ago when I visited the Dr's in  the North Sheffield area where I live, they took some convincing  that I should be tested as they said I had been  tested just 12 months before but i insisted  and a problem was  diagnosed  .

Eventually I ended up at the Hallamshire Hospital and was  put on giant scanning machine , the results of that scan confirmed what I had already suspected this being prostate cancer . I was informed that the cancer is of  an  aggressive type although it may be years before it spread and caused me  serious problems , I was told to think about treatment or due to my age to decide to leave things as they were .

I asked around , talked to many people ,       without fail they all said "go for it " fight the bloody thing and keep positive .

So as started tonight (just now I have taken the first drug (Bicalutamide 50 mg)  this is first of 28 tablets of which the info sheet informs me of all sorts of nasty little side effects that may or may not happen during the coming months .  Hair loss, blood in urine , constipation , ****es ,  dizzyness, tiredness , and so on being just a few .

When the drug course finishes I believe that the next step is radiotherapy at Western Park  ,this will apparently last  for  a few weeks  and include 5 days a week visits .

Any  way the whole point of this blog is to record my  treatment  and hope to compare with other as the Big C seems to be  not talked about  at any length on forums  etc .   so  , feel free to join in ,ask Questions give advice and most important if you think there is a  problem ,insist on seeing a Doctor and do not take no for a answer .

Day  one up and running .

You’ve done the first step by talking about it.  Also Weston Park hospital is one of the finest cancer hospitals in  the country. Everything is in your favour. Keep us informed please.xx
