Who Is Poor?

So Boris's government were socialists then?

That's news to me,  It was said, on TV,  within the last week, that this is the most right wing government this country has had for 100 years

When the Tories leave office, they need to leave a note, "Afraid there are no doctors, nurses, dentists and coppers"

My bold.

I saw that but I can't tell anyone who said it but I turned over to another channel, (sorry don't remember what channel it was), & there was a person on there, (sorry didn't catch their name) , who said this current Govt was in no way Right-wing & was the greatest Govt the UK has seen in the last 150 years.

The £22k would be a rough figure based on tax to be paid but let's presume & be generous & say someone pays 2k a year into their pension pot.  That's still £20k after tax.

I have never earned £20k, but that would be much lower than the average wage. So would that mean I was poor?

It would depend on my choices. If I had chosen to have 3+ children, then I would need more money to support them.

But that would have been my choice to have the children.

If I was 60, then I would have had 40 working life to accumulate wealth. Had I not chosen to save, I would be poor.

Someone said something, so what, are we supposed to be impressed by a nameless someone espousing their view?

Government debt is about to go over 2.5 trillion, is that not enough lefty spending for you? Shall we bump it up some more?

Inflation well into double digits, house prices are silly, as a result of profligate spending, devaluation, stupidly low interest rates, and inept oversight (outsourced by Brown). Highest tax rates most of us can remember. All lefty policies.

Millions getting into debt doing pointless degrees, a Labour wheeze to massage the unemployment figures. Taxpayer will end up picking up the tab.

Four star hotels, block booked for migrants.

Blair left office with people unable to get a GP appointment, there's a Question time on youtube with the audience ripping him apart over it if you forget. Who was it who gave them a massive pay rise and let them have the weekends off? A decision with consequences. The Tories don't run the NHS, they fund it, with our money.

I think that your calendar ran out of batteries in 2010.

I blame Callaghan.

A woman on Newsnight last week   (Shes been on the telly a few times )  Saying she's sold all her furniture because of the cost of living , She go's on to say the price of her sandwich has gone from £1 to £3 . Can't she make her own and save money

Probably.

But making furniture is a skilled job that requires specialist tools and materials

Maybe she doesn’t have them.

You are really having a problem with comprehension and nuance lately. Has this always been the case?

If not, you might want to get someone to smell your neck, just to give you some prior warning about what's to come.

Opting out of weekends did mean a pay cut for them but because they had such a big pay rise, they were still better off than they were before overall.

They're all working part time now... oops

I think that there is something wrong with you.

Take a holiday.

You can't even understand the context.

Maybe you’d like to post something coherent.

I attended a quiz at a local pub. One of the questions was how many people living in the UK have never been abroad.

The answer was 8% of the population. I am not sure I agree with this figure. Google it and it's written about in the Daily Mail.

It got me thinking about how we measure poverty. Has anyone got a more reliable figure than 8%?

Millions of people go abroad on holiday every year, so all of those people cannot be considered poor.

Can a person that has two or more children be poor, surely if they don't have two children unless they can afford to care for them.

Yeah - course the only measure of being poor is if you’ve been abroad……

and having two kids - the cheek of it.

Christ this country is mental
