Defending Yourself.

Recommended Posts

Putting 'day dreaming' and Hollywood make believe aside and being real.

1- don't tell people as it someone listening might think it's a worthwhile punt.

2- don't tell people before or after as you leave yourself open to more serious charges.

3- plan ahead and decide what is best for your situation.

4- defence is always more successful than offence.

5- think why is your property worth the risk to the attacker.

6- think entry points, early warning, distraction, help, first defence line, second defence line, safe zones.

7- weapon in the hands of old men are the most dangerous option and it proves you had no plan and no defence and they are all too often used against them.

Hypothetical scenario.

You are asleep, it's night, you and your family are sleeping like babies.

You hear a bang, then a smashing of glass, then voices.

It's just you, your two kids and potentially a room full of burglars downstairs.

You call the police. They are on their way but the burglars walk upstairs and try to enter your bedroom.  You're huddled in a corner with 2 frightened kids. You have a BB gun with the metal BBs . The door swings open, you aim, you fire, the burglar takes half a dozen BBs to the face..

Have you broken the law?

Who cares? He threatened your family in your own home.

Tony Martin was a hero

Anthony Edward Martin (born 16 December 1944)[2] is a farmer from Norfolk, England, who shot a burglar dead in his home in August 1999. There was much sympathy for Martin and enthusiastic support for the right to defend one's own home. However, some people cast doubt on his evidence and pointed out that he did not have a valid firearms certificate.[3] Martin was convicted of murder, later reduced to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility and served three years in prison, having been denied parole.

If you dwell into the case, the only reason he got done for murder was, he shot the burglar in the back, if he had shot the burglar in the front he would not have been charged with murder, if my memory serves the con-censers of opinion at the time of the police is, if he had shot him in the front he would not have been charged at all. with any thing.   that also might answer the op post

As I understand it, you can only use proportional force, so, if you have a gun, you have to first wait for them to pull a gun on you before you can fire.

Good luck with that.

I think that would  mean any deadly weapon not to mention a gun, if they are coming towards you in a threatening manner with, lets say a knife, you have the right to defend yourself by whatever means.

Yeah, if you’ve been home invaded, and you have a gun, you have to wait for them to start attacking you with lethal force before you can defend yourself with lethal force.

That’s my understanding of the law at least.

I’d think, if you gave a gun, point it at the intruders, and shout at them to get back, leave, surrender, whatever is appropriate; if they ignore your commands, and start coming at you; you have to think it’s your life or theirs, pretty clear what you’re gonna do, and you obviously have to disregard the law, because it’s going to do F all for you if you’re dead.
