What. Am I missing here.

More arrests  figures quoted.

Is that not a good thing for those against illegal entry?

A good question.

It's a complicated issue.

Arrests, detainments, interceptions, encounters and deportations, have failed to stem the flow of some 4,000,000 immigrants, who have illegally entered the U.S. in the last two years.

To give some context, 4 million is the combined populations of San Francisco, Detroit, Denver, Dallas, Washington.

Or Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle.

These are people who have not sought to come into the country through the legal process of application, under existing immigration law, but rather by entering illegally.

They have legal rights, as do all criminals, once they are on American soil.

But because of the sheer numbers, detention centres, immigration judges, schools, hospitals, law enforcement, food banks, welfare systems are overwhelmed in the Southern States, so they are shipped all over the country, where they are released, pending legal enquiry into their status, and background.

At the release points there a plethora of many NGO welcoming committees, to advise them of theri "rights" and "once settled in the United States, refugees are generally in the hands of charity and other volunteer agencies that specialize in resettlement, such as the International Rescue Committee. The State Department’s Reception and Placement Program provides funding to go toward refugees’ rent, furnishings, food, and clothing. After three months, this responsibility shifts to HHS, which provides longer-term cash and medical assistance, as well as other social services, including language classes and employment training".

Many, who are undocumented, just fade in to the population at large and have no more to do with the law, unless they are arrested for a crime. Some of the more egregious crimes are widely reported in the press.

At the same time the U.S. has a Fentanol drug crisis, the source of which, everybody agrees is the porous Southern Border. Also other drug smuggling and human trafficking, by organized cartels.

So depending on your political pursuasion, you might favor allowing illegal immigrants in, (after all, America was built by immigrants) Potential Biden voters?

Or, you want to end this indiscriminate flow of illegal, line jumpers who's first act was to break America's immigration laws to get on America's generous welfare system. Potential Biden voters.

As always, democratic elections will dictate which policies government policies are maintained, and which are tossed out.

Those law abiding, hard working immigrants who came in legally will also have a say in the matter.

As for the current Administration's attitude?

They see it as a problem that can be cured at it's roots, by increasing aid to their countries of origin.

You really should not have gone to so much trouble.

I was only puzzled as to why an increase in arrests indicated that the measure were less effective under Biden.

I still am.

No problem!

But the bottom line is, it had no effect on the crisis.

It doesn't, quite the opposite.

All it really means is that, as a result of Covid, many more people are on the move.

It's not even really a "crisis" in any real sense, the US has ~11.2m jobs available and only around ~5m people looking for employment to do them (assuming they even have the skills), the "crisis" part is wholly a political construct.

Go with that!

Or you can get ask folks  folks who really know what's going on :)

President of Guatemala Alejandro Giammattei blamed the United States for the migrant surge at the border before meeting Monday with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Giammattei said Sunday, (CBS Face The Nation) one day before Harris arrived in Guatemala, said increase in the border crossings are in part because of Biden's more welcoming messages toward immigrants as he took office, a stark contrast to his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.

"The message changed too: 'We're going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children,' " Giammattei told CBS News Sunday. "The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States."

... or ones who's political fortunes rely on passing the blame to someone else :?

In another decade (ish), adults over 65 will outnumber children under 18 for the first time in US history.

For every pensioner today, it takes 2.8 working people for the system to remain solvent, by 2035 that ratio is predicted to drop to 2.1. :?

The made up "political crisis", is masking a genuine crisis in the making.

Unless Americans start producing significantly more babies, or popping their clogs way earlier, the US will be reliant on immigration just to keep the old folks going.

Meanwhile... Congressional Republicans continue to oppose immigration reform legislation.

So... who's going to do those (approx) 6m jobs?

I think you've answered your own question! :)

No, I haven't, because Congressional Republicans continue to oppose immigration reform legislation that would make them the legal immigrants needed to do the job.

The Republicans don't want to actually stop illegal immigration. Who would work below minimum wage levels on their farms, etc? They just want to be able to complain about it for electoral purposes.
