Putin Threatens The West

Recommended Posts

Quote

Have you seen what that flabby, overweight and incompetent Russia has done to Ukraine and the death and suffering inflicted?

It's a disgrace that everyone should be speaking out against... especially our politicians.

Quote

We are a member of a allied alliance and, as such, we can take a certain amount of risks with a country like Russia

On our own, we are the 7 stone weakling.  I hope that you don't seriously think that we could match Russia's strength without our allies backing.

If so, why should the US be the only one speaking up?

Aren't allies supposed to support allies?

Quote

Russia, if fighting only the UK could flatten us in no time at all.

Am sure that was the conventional wisdom... before Ukraine.

Possibly still, but then... allies.

Quote

We have only a fraction of the army we once had, due to cuts and we would be outnumbered both in men and military equipment.

So does Russia, now.

Quote

No one I know advocates letting Putin do as he pleases but we do it as a team and we should speak as a team.

Russia does not want talks that lead anywhere other than giving them what they want.

Quote

Sunak gets carried away with his own importance.

Certainly...

Churchill did have the advantage of having been to war and,   had distinguished himself there and , had some idea of what he was talking about.

Indeed.. and had the foresight to see what happens next... which is why I believe Churchill would be doing the same.

You may regard it as a "my dad's bigger than yours game" but the threat  for all mankind is enormous and should not be taken lightly.

Those who take it so lightly should be the first to sign up and be willing to get on the front line.

I don't think it is being taken lightly, more for what it is.

I also have to wonder, given Putin is all about Putin... how any escalation would impact his legacy.

Am pretty sure he's wondering about that too.

Absolutely!

Armchair telly warmongers are safe at home with their plonk and Corrie Street if the newsreels of Totalitarian Terror on the other channels upsets them!  :)

Churchill warned the World what would happen if you gave them a piece of Europe, as did some wise voices in the West when they annexed Ukraine with nary a murmur.

He committed the country, alone if necessary, to stop the Nazis in their tracks by “all means” possible, but HE meant what he said!

He wasn’t content to sit back and call them names, from the Ambassadorial Ballrooms of the World.

Wolves and Bears can not be shamed by woke labels :)

He didn’t leave it to the Poles, or the French, to take them on alone!

He rallied and even shamed a reluctant U.S. into joining the fight and it wasn’t until they were attacked by another Totalitarian power, who sensed their weakness and attacked them, until they woke up to reality!

Many likeminded patriots from all around the World joined the effort, before their governments decided to join the fray.

(The only volunteers of note with Zelensky in this one are the relatively independent  neo-Nazi brigade, unfortunately)

The Damage that socialist politicians have done to World Peace and co-existence in their divine New Liberal World Orders, Country Building failed attempts, “Regime Change” mantras, will be left to history to decide, assuming the West will be around to have an “Official Intergovernmental Enquiry”. Into the matter!

My bet is that they will finally make an accommodation with The Enemy, like they did with China in Korea, Viet Nam, Palestine, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran.

Even Southern Ireland, and maybe one day, Scotland.

You can’t make an old lady cross the street if she doesn’t want to go!

Until they figure it all out, the brave folks of Ukraine are left to do the heavy lifting in what really is a geopolitical war.

Zelensky has a diplomatic passport, a military escort and a plane waiting for him, likely a Swiss Bank Account too if things really get out of hand!

As usual, IMHO

We should all speak up but, TOGETHER.   We can't speak alone because only America has the power to tackle the Russians alone.

Aren't allies supposed to support allies?

Yes they are but, do you remember the date World War 2 started, and the date when America joined us

If Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbour, they may not have joined in at all

Russia does not want talks that lead anywhere other than giving them what they want.

But, they do make sure that Russia knows that the west is still united.

I believe Churchill would be doing the same.

So do I but, we are in a more perilous position now and Churchill would have been too sensible to  talk like cocky Sunak is talking.

There are all these nations on our side and we are the only ones who keep warning Putin.  That's mad.

I don't think it is being taken lightly, more for what it is.

And what's that?  To listen to you it's all a piece of cake and not at all about more or less ending all life on earth.

The problem is the assumption on the part of the questioner, his Eurocentric "narrative", assumption,  that there is  some  "rule of law" that all Authoritarians and Totalitarians and everybody else in the World, must be forced to abide by, or else!

That may have had some currency in the past, when the West had the military power to actually enforce its "rules",  but those days are long gone!

In today's World, it's a  naive and very dangerous view. Now the enemies are armed to the teeth, and are saying, "or else what?". The West has no viable answer!

Human beings and countries will always act in their own best interest.

When push comes to shove, in War, there are no rules, only survival.

Whether it be invading a neighboring country who are "perceived" as a threat, or indiscriminately dropping two Atom Bombs on two Japanese cities, vaporizing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilian non-combatants, or the West's many invasions of Sovereign Countries around the World.

Those "rules", as usual, were made for "them", not "us", and now we are facing the consequences.

There is only one way out of this mess, and it involves the same mutual accomodation and co-existence that existed during the 50 years of relative World Peace, during the Cold War, and the 4 brief years of Trump.

As usual, IMHO.
