the numbers receiving some form of benefit are astonishing

If wages were higher, benefits would be lower.

An astonishing number of working people earn so little that they need benefits to survive.

It is time that ended.

Surely someone earns more money for 40 hours at minimum wage than receiving Job Seekers or whatever they call it now

Gordon Brown.

But, even you must agree that someone who puts a proper shift in, deserves to earn enough to feed, house and clothe their family.

Blair raised benefits so that it was more worthwhile to sit at home all day then to go to work

Thats the socialist dream where the people who work hard pay for the lazy to sit do nothing

In 2021:

3.9% of total benefit expenditure was overpaid due to fraud and error

The estimated value of overpayments was £8.4 billion

1.2% of total benefit expenditure (or £2.5 billion) was underpaid due to fraud and error

Fraud and error in the benefit system: financial year 2020 to 2021 estimates - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

2016/17 - benefits unclaimed

£10 billion of benefits unclaimed - Turn2us

Take a look at the tax evasion figures.  Then you will understand the real issue.

One thing has nothing to do with the other

We're talking about benefits cheats not tax evasion/avoidance

Why do you always try and divert the subject matter? 🤷‍♂️
