As for the story itself, the patient 'perceived' someone to be transgender.  The hospital did the right thing in refusing.  You don't get to pick & choose who treats you in the NHS.  As long as they're qualified, a doctor is a doctor, a nurse is a nurse. 

 

The patient wouldn't even get to pick & chose in the private sector.

Not sure, but if she had produced a letter from her G.P.  supporting her predicament it could have made a difference,  she has had a traumatic experience and because of this her sensibilities should have been taken into account.  

 

They,  NHS,  could have been thinking along the lines of 'who does she think she is' I think she is a special case,  National Health Service is it not.
