bassett one
hope scc is getting a decent rent for the funfair and stalls ect. it does look good but other citys seem to do it better ,but we are only allowed one choice of supplier for the cabins funfair so it makes it difficult ,but funfair rights are there to protect local fairs, but a change occasionally would be nice,on saying that many companys inc funfairs would possibly prefer not to come. AndrewC
Went down here yesterday afternoon and all seemed to be proving very popular. For all the criticism of the big wheel 'orientation', I have to say there was no shortage of people queueing to go on it, whatever the view consisted of, and from up the road in either direction the light show it was putting on was quite impressive and probably drawing in more people towards it than it would have done had they put it lengthways. HeHasRisen
Why do people on here absolutely hate the fact that people and organisations may, on occasion, turn a profit? Edited November 29, 2022 by HeHasRisen
S35_2o21
We went to town on Sunday, didn't make it to the Moor though. The containers on Fargate look okay, plenty of people were around & enjoying themselves. Division Street was busy with shoppers and people in the pubs. Hopefully the market stalls will be popular enough to want to return next year. It's different Christmas experience than the bland mall shopping offer at Meadowhell. To Sheffielders that aren't business owners, profit is a worse word than the C-word. If they aren't getting everything given to them they're not happy.

The business owners and the people who own the premises that the business are in? Even if the council don't see much of the immediate profit, it's still hugely beneficial for the city centre to appear attractive to business owners who, long-term, pay business rates and increase economic activity in the city. Manchester and Nottingham have a large space where they can put the market. You moan about the market but if they didn't have one you'd moan about that. SCC can't win.
