Guest busdriver1
I really dont get the current fad for Christmas markets. Yes, they have them in Europe and they are generally good. The difference is that they have evolved not been created, they have grown over many years and often decades into what are now successful markets where the locals go for good value products at reasonable prices. There are normally long waiting lists for stallholders to get a pitch. What we have here is a cobbled together sham of a market with people mainly selling junk or over priced "genuine" "German" products. Yes, there are some German stalls there. The ones that are on waiting lists for the proper markets where they could take in an hour what they currently have to trade all day to take. Add into the mix some "artisan" stalls and you have what we see. Overpriced rubbish pretending to be a German Christmas market. For anyone who has been to a genuine German Christmas market they find these pathetic wannabe markets amusing and feel sorry for those that think this is what a real one is like. bassett one
yes its hard to book a coach trip to many markets at xmas ,due to limited parking for all day coachs, but many are so busy,we needed to pinch there ideas and like many citys have things like a indoor market combined with funfair or tradition like lincoln or a huge funfair in the city centre like hull,we lack ideas to increase footfall at christmas,we lost the famous halloween city centre idea that was great.
