Should Nurse's Strike?

Recommended Posts

Ambulance workers going on strike on 20 December. If anyone needs an illustration of just how bad things have been allowed to get under this government, here you go:

Normally, during a strike, the unions would ensure a basic 'life and limb' level of cover.

So many people have left the ambulance service and so few people have joined, that if the unions provided the usual level of 'life and limb' cover during the strike, this would be a better level of staffing than on a normal day.

This country is screwed. Make the tax dodgers pay their taxes for Christ's sake! This is where all the dodging, whether avoidance or evasion, has brought us. Nothing left (so we're told) to maintain a daily staffing level better than a strike day.

Yes, most people are aware, Brexit, COVID and the Tories caused that. The Government will now also be able to blame the unions/workers, maybe that is why they are not negotiating?

Sorry if I come across as silly but I don’t understand what you mean about the cover .

No it's fine. So there's a desired / ideal number of staff on shift every day. That would be a 100% staffing situation.

On a strike day the unions would usually guarantee a specific percentage of cover. I don't know what that is, but let's say 70%

But on a normal day at the moment, the staffing would be lower than 70% (or whatever the actual figure is)

Now that's depressing.
