NHS spent £66 million on translation and interpreting services in 2019/2020

Be interesting to see how much other countries spend.   I believe you need your own interpreter in some countries if there's nobody already employed who knows some English.

It's not going to be £66 million worth, but some of that will be for BSL interpreters

No, one of the ideas behind devolution is to give autonomy to the devolved areas on how they divide up and spend the money given to them. They get a set amount for the NHS and because of regional variations in population etc they spend that money accordingly as that's how devolution works. Same goes for education and other aspects of funding.

Thanks for that Dromedary. It clears that up because I thought that the free prescriptions were extra money.

So it's a question of what  they decide to prioritise, and people in England seem to come way down the list.

Yep, what the devolved administrations in Wales/Scotland/NI prioritise for their constituents - nothing to do with England.

Except that we pay them a shed load of money to do with what they will. (Barnett formula?)

Would that money stop if they achieved Scottish independence?

Yep, which is a big stumbling block for Scotland as that money would then need to be generated "in house" so to speak. Just like Brexit though there will be a transitional period that would need to be agreed where all these problems will need to be ironed out.
