s264
Can anyone tell me how the district called Port Mahon got to be named and why that. Think it stretches from the ponderosa across to Scotland Street is that right?

HeHasRisen
That map is dated 1937-61 according to that page, so unless anyone can pull out a more recent example its a name not used for that area in decades. Just dont tell the estate agents, might give them an idea..... Edited November 29, 2022 by HeHasRisen
Jon26
One of my grandparents was born there, or that's what it says on her birth certificate. 1906 was the year.
sadbrewer
In 1821 a row of houses came up for sale at the 'top of Watery Lane, Port Mahon' The earliest I can find it is in 1810, described as Port Mahon near Sheffield. The original Port Mahon is in Minorca. Edited December 7, 2022 by sadbrewer
