Free Solar Panels Idea?

Recommended Posts

with the huge costs of electric ect, would it not be worth while doing a deal and fitting panels to all homes? they make a profit do they not with surplus electric? so if so fit them to all houses, profit goes to the goverment and the house pays towards the cost each month.

Someone I work with had solar panels fitted to his house about 6 or 7 years ago.  He got a bit of a grant at the time but they still set him back about £10,000 & even though he's seen his electric bills drop overall annually & he also makes money by selling surplus electricity back to the National Grid it will be a good decade before he breaks even.  But as he's no intention of selling his house he will end up in profit.

Of course on days like today, he's not getting any benefit.

The Govt should set a date for all new builds, both domestic & commercial, whereby all building are  compulsory fitted with  solar panels.  That way the prices of panels should fall to allow the rest of us to benefit from lower prices & enable us to fit panels.

Saw a recent programme on the BBC which showed that solar panels don't necessarily have to be roof panels.  Intresting designs such as garden fences doubling as solar panels.

how do they do there housing stock in germany?

Exactly as you mention it, government installs it and pays a large section of the investment. Driving around there you see loads more panels than here.

Also all new houses in Netherlands several years now not allowed to use gas anymore and produce half its own elec solar. That happened long before gas price boom.

My bold.

My point exactly.  We talk as though we're world leaders in this sort of thing but Germany is well ahead of us.

Why all new builds aren't required to have panels is beyond me. You'd think in this climate that they would be.

In a few years they're all going to be forced into heat-pump heating systems so why not force solar?
