Strike Action

Do you support Junior Doctors who will earn big salaries after their training is finished being given a 35% pay rise which is what they are asking for now?

Everyone knows that the figure is a starter for negotiations and they will never get that nor even expect to get that.

Much in the same way as the nurses 19%, which they also will not get and they also know it.

It just works like an auction backwards and the government know that too.

The workers know that,  If they sit there talking about 5%, they will get 5%.

It is common for the tories to use those figures as a stirring spoon to try and build discontent against the workers.

The figure of 35% is a ludicrously high figure for a starter even more so after the 19% figure asked by the nurses union was judged to be unaffordable. The Labour party has also stated both those figures are unrealistic which the government can not afford.  The government has rightly not got involved in any reverse auction as you call it and remain credible.

When people shout about supporting strikers they never seem to know the present salary rates of the strikers and their colleagues.

By using massive wage claims other workers lose sympathy for them.

Worth pointing out that the title Junior Doctor isn't only applied to those in training, but those who have passed all their exams but who are not consultants in their field. So you could be a junior doctor with 15 or 20 years experience.

That's as may be.

The government has some serious work to do  in that case because they need to figure out where they are going to get the doctors and nurses that they so badly need.

This situation has arisen because those doctors and nurses did not get a proper pay deal for year after year and they have dropped behind to the point where they are  now demanding to catch up.

I'm glad it's not my problem but I wasn't the one who has tried to pull a fast one over them during the whole austerity program.

IMO the NHS has pretty much the same problem as the care sector, nobody that's actually qualified and knows what they're doing wants to work LONG hours for hardly any money.

The title of Junior Doctor is explained well on the British Medical Association website.

Quote

Junior doctors are qualified doctors in clinical training.

They have completed a medical degree and foundation training, and have anywhere up to eight years' experience working as a hospital doctor, depending on their specialty, or up to three years in general practice.

All junior doctors work under the supervisor of a senior doctor.

One of the reasons it was announced in yesterday's budget that the cap on tax free pension allowances was to be scrapped is to discourage Doctors and consultants not to take early retirement.  The Labour party plan to reverse the decision if they get in government.

We'll not need Doctors in the future Mr.X.

Artificial Intelligence will do the work for them.
