The government want more trains on a weekend and at unsociable days.

The train staff don't what more hours, pay them more to work weekends and not a below inflation pay rise, they might think about it.

That is how employers encourage people to work more, time and a half, double time etc

The price of housing is a national disgrace. 
The ease in which mortgages were given in recent years helped to increase the prices.

They are short staffed, so they do as many hours as they want. Why would they agree to doing more?

of all the industries to defend, this is not the one to die on a hill for.

Sure they get overtime rates .

many people used to be glad to get overtime to make more money.

I am retired.
