El Cid
The average annual salary for full-time workers in London in 2022 was £41,866 a year, compared with £29,521 for workers in North East England, which was the lowest in the United Kingdom in 2022. 3 minutes ago, makapaka said: The worst government in history. The minimum wage works out at about £17K- £18K, and judging by the number of huge distribution centres being built in Sheffield I would think a lot of people work in them, or as van drivers etc. I don't think I know many people on £38K, (but of course I would never ask.) So a big gap there. It also makes care workers and nurses look underpaid don't you think? perhaps the media should ask everyone on the picket line how much salary they actually get, and if they are personally eating patient leftovers and using foodbanks (because they are so destitute), as suggested by their union leader on QT the other day. (the same person who struggled to answer what percentage their pay claim actually was, the day before) One interviewer did so, the answer was 12 years experience, band 7 --- which goes up to £47,672 pa (or if you're in inner London, £55,049) https://www.nhsemployers.org/articles/pay-scales-202223 Edited December 18, 2022 by fools

Anna B
A lot has been said about the Nurses going on strike (although I think only two of the Trusts actually voted to strike,) but the thing that annoys me and needs addressing most, is that care workers who basically do a nursing job, are not being mentioned. These essential, hard working people without whom the NHS would fall apart, are amongst the lowest paid workers in the country, and do one of the hardest jobs. I don't know if those that work in hospitals are included in the current dispute / pay claim, but If anybody needs a pay rise, it's them. I don't know why they were taken out of the NHS in the first place other than as a cost cutting exercise, but it's a disgrace. Social care is a fundamental part of the NHS, but is now hived off to private business and agencies, and it shows, in terms of poor pay and conditions.
