Freedom Of Speech To Be Banned Near Abortion Clinics

Tell you what. If I open an abortion clinic I'll tell you what I'd do.👍

No need!

The house analogy means you don't have to open an abortion clinic to know what you'd do!

I'd rather you just answered the question, it's really not a trick one! :suspect:

...but what would you expect them to do, given the protest is peaceful... it's only really really intimidating to you, and your kids.

Just as anyone would I'd want them to move the people along. Whether they can or not is squarely down to what the law says. In reality what I 'want' has nothing to do with it.

You would want them moved along, just as the abortion clinic and it's clients did.

The law says it's intimidation, plain and simple.

Well... it would if you were going to, or worked in, an abortion clinic. You would have got what you wanted!

I think you'll find the same if there was a protest about you, outside your house too.

Everyone's happy...

...except Chekhov (and presumably anti-abortionists who like to intimidate people for making that choice) :(

Yes, as I've made clear numerous times.

Now stop being deliberately dense.

It's not a good look.

Touched a raw nerve there have I??

I am just catching up with the thread and responding as I go along, so obviously, as you have often repeated things, some of my questions are going to be repeated

Then, as I've already said, Show me.

Show me the law and I'm happy to rethink my position.

I'm not so insecure that I have to be right all the time. I leave that to others.

If it is considered harassment in the eyes of the law I won't like it, but I'll have to accept it.

Sorry to burst your bubble but no.

Why? Was that your aim?

You won't like it if something that is clearly harassment, is considered harassment?

The link says 'Court ruling paves the way....' etc.

It talks about Scotland and Northern Ireland. At the bottom of the news piece it says Its still going through parliament. But anyway...

I joined the thread to give an opinion.

The opinion being that peaceful protest should be allowed and not shuffled off to some quiet corner somewhere.

I added that banning protests outside facilities is a slippery slope.

Then in typical SF style I was jumped on for 'wrong think'.

So, has it been passed into law yet?

Not if that includes peaceful protest, no.

Peaceful protest should be protected but I've said all that before haven't i.

Street harassment to be a crime now

BBC News - Street harassment to be banned in crackdown, government says
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63916328

"Chuffin' hell. I am effin' mad at this. It is my right to follow women down the street and harass them, first they made me not go swimming for months and now bleedin' this! Take me back to the 70s, modern life is rubbish"

"Northern Ireland is the first part of the UK to bring in legislation on abortion clinic buffer zones"

It isn't being, they can use any corner they like (or not), as long as it's not near the clinic.

Let's face it, these protests are about intimidating and shaming the women using the facility, and staff working there, that is their purpose.

Well you got the right answer when the protest was about you, outside your house...

...not sure what more is needed.

In NI, yes.

Regardless, the supreme court has validated their legality.

For all the reasons highlighted here, by many people, it's clearly harassment.

Not least because it's all about targeting the individual.

I see nothing, here at least, to suggest it isn't.

And that's where we differ.

1st, Abortion clinics...

Where next? Government buildings? Council buildings? Police stations? The town High Street?

All for safety mind. Nothing else 👍
