That’s only one of the parents.

True, but that first parent’s entire income could be entirely swallowed up by rent/mortgage, childcare and utilities.

That leaves food, council tax, cars, clothes,  student loans, rainy day savings, and fun for the second parent.

There won’t be a lot left.

My question is "Why do you feel the need to compare the two?" They both do jobs which need doing. But if we're levelling things up, let's put the the nurses pay up to train driver level.

We live in a free market and so pay is set by the market, that's why footballers are paid more then they "should be" and care workers less than they "should be",

It's also why truck drivers, especially "over nighters", were being offered stupendous amounts of money not that many months ago, the market works both ways.

Of course some people think we should not live in a  free market, but all alternatives tried so far have been stupendous failures.

Did you now?

Congratulations.

Now, do you have anything sensible to add?

What's the other parent doing, cruising the Med

Working, perchance? Whence the need for childcare?

On a ZHC, perish the thought? Whence not a whole lot more to contribute to the household’s outgoings?

Never mind the OP, there’s a raft of posters seemingly well out of touch with life for the blue collars in 2022. I’d hazard a guess, that few of them aren’t retired already.

they don't have much of a sense of humour either

That's plain untrue. If anything it's right wingers who have no sense of humour, which explains the reason why there are so few right wing stand up comedians.

For years the Telegraph and the Mail have been whining about how on television comedy panel shows, all the panellists are 'left wing' (in fact many are just centrist), and it's not fair that there is no representation of right wingers. But if there are no right wing comedians to go on, then what are broadcasters to do?

You could always nominate yourself to do a few stints as the token right winger though
