Sorry to drag this back close to the topic again but a while ago, a person who "does not work for the council" stated that because the firm I work for had terminated deliveries to S1 area because of the constant changes to the road layout that another firm would step in.

Well since they only deliver their own products that was never going to happen.

However, yesterday, they trialled the use of a subcontractor with entertaining results.  The subcontractor was given 10 deliveries to deliver all inside the ring road and was allowed the generous time of 4 hours to do them in. They were all time slotted with a very generous (compared to other deliveries we make) 10 Minutes (4 elsewhere).  2 deliveries were made within the time slots, one was delivered late and the subcontractor then came back to the yard and unloaded his van and disappeared never to be seen again. 🙂 He had gained one parking ticket given whilst unloading in an area where loading is permitted and had to pay the CAZ charge as his van was 6 months too old and was only euro 5. The customers concerned had to make their way to the depot to pick up their goods. One shop closed early to do this. One customer turned up in a 20 year old diesel car that was literally belching out smog and had been driving through the CAZ  with it 🙂

Good innit?

Shhh. They use that as the excuse to include private cars in a few months time, despite "no plans to include them"

So someone else did step in, but didn't do it very well.

You never mentioned the bit before about only delivering your own products.

What is the product being delivered? Is it something unique that can't be got from another source?

Oddly I've not noticed the internet being awash with people voicing similar concerns.

Are statistics going to be released about traffic numbers from the start of the CAZ?

It would be interesting to see how the numbers compare and whether they would encourage active travel into the city.

This is awkward for the council isn't it. How do they justify CAZ in light of that?!

This is an interesting article I've come across that shows Sheffield is one of the most least polluting city's.

You might want to look at the report they are quoting from and that itself is very light on what they have actually judged places on. Their criteria for judging doesn't give confidence in their results:

Quote

Methodology

Data correct as of 6th August 2020, combining information from a range of reputable sources such as Numbeo, Tripadvisor and the ONS.

We used a weighted ranking system, the Green City Index assigns a score to calculate just how much green space there is in the immediate area.

Out of a possible score of 60, the weighting takes 6 factors into account to reveal the greenest cities and boroughs:

  1. Number of Parks
  2. Number of Gardens
  3. Number of Nature and Wildlife areas
  4. Number of Playgrounds
  5. Bodies of Water
  6. Number of Forests

Yes - studies by the apartment rental brand Essential Living are the worlds learing authority* on urban pollution and not in any way trying to rent out apartments.................................

*perhaps not
