There appear to be more by the Midland Station and on a small section of Charter Row than in the rest of the city centre put together.

the only result at sheffield station area that counts is Sheaf St. all the others aren't in the zone so cannot be counted.

SCC admit in their own clean air policy that this tube records high results "primarily to the diesel trains in the station".

This is further evidenced by the fact that during lockdown when there was about 20% of traffic emissions from cars in comparison to the year before that tube still recorded over 40, so in theory you could taker every single chargeable vehicle off that road and it still would be over the limit rendering the implemented measures of the CAZ not viable.

now overlay it with poorly managed/unnecessary red lights and pedestrian crossings.

Don't mention all this or you will be shot down in flames! I had the nerve to talk about it  and the technology to keep traffic flowing by controlling the traffic lights, particularly at 'rush hour ' periods and incurred the wrath of others on here quite a while ago.....nothing has changed of course.

Sheffield has all the traffic control technology you’d expect of any major city.

When the network is over-capacity, all you can do is manage the queues. There isn’t any magic bullet to get rid of queues.

It's a pity that they don't use the technology then!

I agree, the best way is to manage the queues (they can't be 'magiced away) but there seems to be a disconnect between the thinking and the doing.

UTC is well know for being re-active and not pro-active. They also frequently take their "eye off the ball".

Anyone with a good brain could do a better job, it would not be difficult to do.

Sometimes those red lights are deliberate. ( some junctions are designed to sit at red on all approaches when there’s no traffic around) Some may be due to faulty detectors.

Most modern cities have a lot of traffic signals on major routes, what makes you think this one should be different?

Why - IMHO just to cause aggravation - but councils always know best.🤣
