Where are you supposed to pay?

The signs say check online, but there's nothing I can find. Will the signs tell you how to pay?

The website, the first one you get when you google "Sheffield CAZ", dated 12/12/2023, is about as much use as a crack in a glass eye.

And it gets worse;

https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/utilities/footer-links/privacy-notice

"We process personal data to provide public services.

Personal data is information about living identifiable individuals. It can be a name, address, contact details, photograph, sound recording; it can be details of someone’s behaviour, lifestyle, physical or mental health needs; it can be a unique number, such as a vehicle registration plate, National Insurance number, etc.

We decide what personal data we need and how to use it, so we are a Data Controller and registered as such on the Information Commissioner’s Register of Data Controllers.

When we collect personal data, we are required to make sure you are clear what data we need and why, what we intend to do with it, what your individual rights are, and who you can contact for enquiries or concerns about the use of your personal data. This is called a privacy notice and we can do this verbally or in writing.

This page is our general privacy notice and we have included specific privacy notices below for the services that process large amounts of personal data, for example council tax, planning, parking, elections, licensing, housing, etc. "

What is a Clean Air Zone?

A Clean Air Zone (CAZ) is an area where targeted action is taken to improve air quality, by discouraging the most polluting vehicles from entering the zone. No vehicle is banned in the zone, but those which do not have clean enough engines will have to pay a daily charge if they travel within the area.

Sheffield City Council will be introducing a Class C chargeable zone for the most polluting large goods vehicles, vans, buses, and taxis that drive within the inner ring road and city centre.

Typical arrogant tone and attitude.

By "compliant" you mean Euro 6 compliant? we're not in the EU any more so why should we??

Because the Euro system of emissions is still used by the Government of this country as a benchmark. They arent going to bin it and not replace it with something else, thats not the way the wind is blowing.

If you dont like that, lobby your MP and get them to call it something else, the net result would be no different (would perhaps be called Brit 6 or something to keep the raging gammons happy)

BTW, Switzerland also uses the same Euro system. They arent in the EU either you know

Cant be arsed checking other countries.

Get a van that’s compliant. Pretty simple.

Company I work for are stopping delivery to the City centre and anywhere involving use of the ring road.

All their vehicles ARE compliant, it is just costing far too much in time to attempt to deliver with constant  changes to road systems and parking / delivery regs.

No need for the Clean (alleged) air zone, the council are making it unusable without.

Interesting. Which company is this? Assume there is a notice on their website?

Social media policy does not allow me to name them.

Customers have been informed directly, their website would likely not say anything as little is done through that. Its all on the phone and repeat business. It was costing too much to deliver there so out it goes.

I’d start looking for another job if I were you.

When did this change; (I know the post is over 10 years old).

"The Council's system does not spy on people, it tracks a vehicle movement via the number plate, our system holds no personal data, we don't know who you are and don't want to."

Has legislation changed eg the Data Protection Act? Or is it HMG? Have Sheffield drivers (and others) been notified of the change of use of their personal data?

Not sure what you mean?

OK - but has anyone come up with a half decent explanation as to why the Inner Ring Road should be chargeable to some vans, buses, HGV's?

Best place for them to go round the city centre  IMHO - far better than using alternatives which might use alternatives that take them into - for example,

South West to North West - Brocco Bank  / Broomhill / Crookesmoor Road down to Penistone Road,

M1 to South -  Parkway, Cricket Inn Road, Bernard Steet, Shrewsbury Road, Queens Road.

Because the modelling work that’s been done to assess the potential scenarios says compliance with air quality standards won’t be achieved unless the inner ring road is included in the CAZ.

So compliance can be achieved by pushing pollution away from the IRR into the suburbs near the city centre eg Broomhill, Wybourn? Or going Parkway to N Sheffield via Herries?

Please answer ANPR / Personal data question. Thank you.
