There seems to be a lot of deluded people thinking they can turn modern Britain into Camberwick Green

The pandemic has certainly made this more achievable tbh. I never used my local Co-op before March 2020. Now that I work from home I seem to constantly be in there. Only a small example but you see what I mean.

I dont do a full shop in there! Agree with you there. Rather do that then get the car out to go to Asda just for milk.

who cares, most of them are stationary

that's definitely part of the problem - there are now so many cars parked on our streets that it's making a significant dent in their transport capacity. It's crept up on us, but we're all now used to the constant stopping-waiting-starting due to parked cars in the road.

at what point do we try and do something about it?

(imagine twice as many cars trying to park on your road - that's where we're heading)

there is a reason people buy cars ... they are needed to do the things they need to do in the time they have available. this isn't like central london with an easily available tube to get around, get to work. People have to get a job where they can and unless you're very lucky and have a factory at the end of the road, you're gonna have to travel.

so we all give up cars ... that's several hours a day less to enjoy that little bit of time you have between working darn the pit, and death. and we all stay at home and do shopping on line, because travel has now become so unpleasant that it's not worth the effort  ... how do we get our stuff .... home delivery of course, the most inefficient polluting way we can get our stuff  ... the stuff that keeps the economy flowing
