Attempted insurrections aren't defined by their scale or their success (or lack of it) but by their intent. Bolsonaro and his party laid the groundwork by telling lies about the integrity of the election. His supporters where then encouraged to use violence to take over the government. The similarities to the events in the US after Trump lost the 2020 election are striking precisely because, as L00b noted, the same people, Bannon, etc, advised both sets of losers.

Fair point.

£1 to a £0.01 that there has been intense social media “steerage” by a Cambridge Analytica-like shadow digital actor in Brazil, just like in the US, the UK, Hungary, Germany (…) before.

Lest we forget, Musk fired the entire Twitter team in Brazil late last year. Including those in charge of content moderation.

Edit (found link): but of course.

In unrelated news, Musk fired the entire Twitter team in Brazil late last year. Including those in charge of content moderation.

Wasn't that because the moderators were giving preferences to left wing candidates?

I wonder why he might have done that.

Yup. And worked with the fbi to silence people and bury stories that weren't favourable towards the Democrats.

It's strange that when twitter was a left leaning platform....(.Jack Dorsey admitted as such,) the left never mentioned twitter, yet now it's been purchased by a chap who wants a more free speech platform the outrage is deafening.

Hardly a day goes by without that petulant rag The Guardian getting in a few childish digs at twitter.

Don't like it when they don't get their own way.

Stomp stomp.

But back on topic.

Just a reminder that "insurrection" looks like this:

WIKI

"Within Minneapolis, widespread property destruction and looting occurred, including a police station being overrun by demonstrators and set on fire, causing the Minnesota National Guard to be activated and deployed on May 28. After a week of unrest, over $500 million in property damage was reported in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area, with two deaths linked to the riots.[26][27][28][29] Further unrest quickly spread throughout the United States, sometimes including rioting, looting, and arson. By early June, at least 200 American cities had imposed curfews, while more than 30 states and Washington, D.C, had activated over 62,000 National Guard personnel in response to unrest.[30][31][32] By the end of June, at least 14,000 people had been arrested at protests.[33][34][35] By June 2020, more than 19 people had died in relation to the unrest. According to a September 2020 estimate, arson, vandalism and looting caused about $1–2 billion in insured damage between May 26 and June 8, making this initial phase of the George Floyd protests the civil disorder event with the highest recorded damage in United States history.[9][36]

I’m not the one who labelled the picture as pornographic.

Nor am I the one who makes a rather silly point of re-publishing it at every opportunity.

Both of those things are down to you.

I guess that we should all be grateful that you’ve neglected to mention laptops yet on this thread.

Here ya go - Laptops

In your example, no-one is trying to overthrow the democratic or electoral process, or just about everything Americans claim to hold dear...

...unlike Jan.6th, they are not trying to overthrow the duly elected government!

As usual, just another poor attempt at false equivalence. :loopy: :hihi:

So it's ok to smash up, riot, loot and create absolute mayhem, ruin legit businesses......along as it's not government property...
