Security was very lax - apparantly Ruby had attended a press conference in the prison the day of Oswalds arrest. He even spoke to correct the DA who said Oswald was a member of an anti Catro movement, when the movement Oswald was part of was pro-Castro.

 

This was only a year after the Cuban missile crisis and pretty much the height of the Cold War. Oswald had defected to the USSR in 1959 and returned to the USA in 1961.

The "narrative" was that Ruby was not just a local mob related, strip club owner, he was a true patriot, well known to the local cops,  who was devastated by the death of the President, and by his true act of patriotism for Country and Flag, he also stopped Oswald from talking about how he got the gig.. 

 

Makes sense to me! 

 

Next you'll be asking why Epstein, on suicide watch, in a Max Security Penitentiary had both his jailers fall asleep at the same time as the 2 video cameras broke down.. The "narrative" was that they were overworked, and underpaid due to budget cuts by the Republicans.
