Teachers' Strikes

Recommended Posts

No doubt many of the general public think teaching is a doddle. Working hours of 9 'til 3 and thirteen weeks holiday a year, plus the fantastic money they earn.

Well believe me today it's not like that in the slightest.

I was educated in the '50s and spent over 30 years at the 'chalk face'. until retiring over a decade ago.

It's a different ball game nowadays compared with back then. The critics ought to spend a few months trying it out and then they might alter their opinions.

The same goes for nursing and a lot of other jobs.

echo.

Obligatory but needless mention of Covid, along with a nonsensical question to finish, I'm oot.

1 - The fact kids missed 7 months education is of no relevance to them missing even more ?

2 - The fact parents get fined for their kids missing even one weeks school over a year IS relevant. How come the teachers aren't getting fined ?

I have to say you do not sound like you have any kids at school.

I snipped those bits, to attempt to point people towards the serious and growing problem in teacher recruitment and retention.

Although, a pay rise is only part of the solution. There are some other things that need doing,  not all of which will please the teaching unions.

Do you remember when we were short of truck drivers ?

They got massive rises.

If low wages are leading to a shortage of teachers or nurses or whatever (and I am unconvinced by that as it happens) then the government in power will pay for it at the ballot box.

Do you think a teacher should be fined if they have a day off sick, or are you merely picking and choosing scenarios to suit an agenda?

4. Ask for a pay increase.

Actually, perhaps I should have said :

Ask for a pay increase and if you don't get one then :

1 - Do more hours (if possible).

2 - Get promotion.

3 - Leave and get another job.

I might have guessed that you would be unconvinced by simple, incontrovertible statistics.

There’s a pattern emerging.

4. Vote for, and then go on, a strike, as is their legal right.

Another Strawman argument.

They are not sick, they are choosing to be off.....

We are becoming over populated with Strawmen.

I never commented on if there was a teacher recruitment problem, i simply said it would be the government's job to ensure there are enough teachers and if there aren't they will pay for it at the ballot box.

When your lad doesn’t have specialist secondary school teachers, please don’t come on here whining about it.
