hackey lad
What does the change to an academy mean ?
Janet24
It means the school is no longer under the auspices of the Local Authority - it is run more like a business, academies offer different salaries etc.to staff and have control of their own finances. PapaLazarou
Its the last Sheffield high school under local authority control, according to their press. When it gets taken over and turned into an academy, thats the lot of them gone, apparently. Janet24 is right....it gets run like a business. Not sure if thats a good or a bad thing. Because theres privatisation vs state-run argument right there....
PapaLazarou
Either way, they've clearly broken it. The report is damning. Edited January 23, 2023 by PapaLazarou

zakes
King Ted's started to go downhill the moment the ever brilliant Hillsbro left there in the 60s IMO.

I would have expected pupils at such a prestigious school to wear a uniform. I am probably thinking of my school years.

Guest makapaka
My mate who is a teacher but not at king teds has a different take on a lot of this. apparently there are a lot of MPs on the boards of these “academies” - pressure driven by ofsted guidelines set by the same people gives an excuse to force it into academy status and sparks up the gravy train. Anna B
Why is King Ted's being forced to become an academy? Why do people assume this will improve its performance? That has not been the case with any number of Academy schools which are failing badly. Basically, this is part of the Tories, drive towards privatisation of all things by the back door, (see what's happening in the NHS) and IMO is not a good thing. It solves nothing.
