White Card Woke Madness

Portuguese football has registered a world first. A white card. Yes, white. Not red, or yellow, but white

It is to denote acts of fair play.  This one was given for summoning medical staff to a spectator who had fainted.

Now, notwithstanding the steam that will pour from certain members of the forum when they hear that someone fainted at a match, is this a good idea? Do we have to celebrate every little nice thing? Should we do this sort of thing more often?

And why wasn’t it a black card?

My bold.

Seems fair enough to me. Its about time white was seen in a more positive light these days.

Using it to summon medical is also a positive thing. Yeah, I'm all for it.

Regardless of whether we agree with it or not, we all know deep down it's just really really silly.

Absolutely it is. Still, coming up with daft ideas keeps someone in a job though.

Every cloud and all that.

At one time teams qualified for the Intertoto  Cup as a reward for fair play.  Unless there is some reward such as extra points at the end of the season for the team awarded the most white cards there is no sense of purpose.

Teams qualified for the UEFA Cup/Europa League based on fair play points until relatively recently, too.

Awarding 3 points to the team awarded the most white cards at the end of the season could make the final day of the season more interesting.
