It could be voluntary to do the work, (with the caveat that it would be considered to be advantageous in getting a work permit if they are eventually accepted into the country for example...)

For every migrant worker employed by a UK business they have to pay an additional charge to the Home Office. The details of the last financial year, 2021 - 2022, show that £349 million was collected. This money is supposed to fund training, apprenticeships, etc for UK workers. https://hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2022-12-05/debates/A2FF519D-FE5B-4845-92BC-D499FDC66CAE/ImmigrationSkillsCharge(Amendment)Regulations2022

Can you buy a ticket for the Meadowhead bullet train - or doesn't it exist yet? Just because Geoff on Lowedges Forum says something, it doesn't necessarily means it's true - you do know that, don't you? There are many reasons British workers cannot do these jobs, the most pressing being that they cannot afford to live on the poor wages they pay as their costs are considerably more than that of itinerant or casual workers. They may also be highly unreliable 0 hours contract work. They also may not have transport (or public transport) to get to out of town farm locations. People are getting poorer. It's pretty shocking that a working man can't afford the very basics of life; a roof over his head, food on the table and the cost of soaring energy bills and utilities . Universal credit is a complicated nightmare. The criteria for claims are constantly changing, and the amount difficult to calculate especially if the hours someone works is constantly changing. Yet it was supposedly designed to make the system easier. Another Tory lie. Mistakes/underpayments tie people up in knots/arguments for months as it is, and this will add to the mayhem. UC needs scrapping altogether. Let's not forget that Boris Johnson was the chief instigator for Britain coming out of the EU and led the 'leave' campaign. He convinced a lot of people to vote leave with his lies, and for that he has never been held responsible. They made him Prime Minister instead.... that worked out well didn't it? Also please note farmers have always had to plough some food crops back into the fields every year. It's nothing new. If they are considered the wrong size by supermarkets, they won't accept them, so back into the soil they go. bassett one
the farms used to get lots of european workers ,but since we left the common market they have found work elsewhere and boris thought that farm work and shop work and building work all basic labouring jobs would be filled by our own workers ,thats failed so now they are looking at more universal allowances so the people find it worth doing extra hours and mr hunt is now also as it says wants OAPS to help out, whatever anyone thinks its a mess and it wants sorting,DOWTON ABBEY THE FAMOUS tv serial has announced today that due to staff shortages they cannot offer weddings any longer, the only other choice is we let migrants in for work to solve the problem. The sort of jobs that need filling are not the sort that OAPs can usually do. Picking crops in the fields? Back breaking work, and OAPs have enough problems with backs. Changing sheets and making beds in double quick time in hospitality? Sorry but I have enough trouble with my own bed and duvet cover. Building work? Forget it.... The only reason they are suggesting OAPs is that they need to supplement their pension, - which is also not enough to live on.
