He's a highly skilled search speciaist - as in underwater, use of sonar etc . 

 

Oddly enough sections the press don't give much publicity to his statement that a body could be in the sea by now - an area within his expertise,  but prefer his speculation, for example,  that the phone could have been left on the bench as a decoy.

I haven't heard him say that, I'm not sure what to make of it.

 Seems a bit unhelpful to me.

because it happened on a previous case he was involved in. afaik, he said he didn't think it would be in the sea ... 15km away. if this was a possibility, why wasn't a net put up in the early days. why no dummy placed to assess the flow

 

the position of the phone is the only clue, therefore speculation around how and why it was there is valid.

 

we are now in the absurd position that the media are belittling the public for speculating and taking an interest, whilst stood in the field, speculating and generating interest.

Man reveals how his brother disappeared on the same stretch as Nicola Bulley

A man has come forward to reveal how his brother disappeared on the same stretch of the river as missing Nicola Bulley 45 years ago.

Roger Jones, 16, vanished into the icy waterway on 27 January 1978, his brother Don has told The Daily Star.

Mr Jones said police and rescuers tried for hours to find his missing sibling and the search operation ended when the body washed up on a sandbank at low tide.

The body was found seven miles away from St Michael’s on Wyre, he added.

“He was obviously swept over the weir and into the tidal part of the river. It was just a case of waiting for what seemed inevitable.”

…and it’s not on the River Wyre yet he says his brother disappeared on the same stretch of river as Nicola.

The Police rarely come out of this sort of thing well, unlike the ‘expert’ who appears to be very experienced and talks common sense. My advice to the Police would be to say nothing when there’s nothing to say, anyone can come up with the ‘guesses’ that they have used on TV updates, this doesn’t help anyone.

 

Some of the things that the Police will have examined are not for the public domain, albeit absolutely essential, we can all imagine what they are.
