Waverley, is bloody awful.

Everybody on the Forum agrees and thinks Waverley's crap. Can't all be wrong. Perhaps 15 minutes means that's how long it'll be before you want to leave again. Guest
I confidently predict that 15 minute cities will not happen until long after HS2 is completed.
Findlay
Do you think that if Labour get in power they will rename Waverley back to the Conservative eradicated Orgreave.

ads36
well, exactly. people have been living there for a decade, and we're still talking about 'plans' to build shops/etc. you could argue that Whitby's Fish-n-Chips restaurant counts as a local amenity (it's good!). If you live in ... say ... Mayfield Avenue, Whitby's is only 100m away, but the walkable route is 10times that. Walking has been quite effectively 'designed out' of the estate - many of the roads don't even have pavements. The local school is already over-subscribed, how the hell did that happen?! - this should be a perfect opportunity to build a good school, with sufficient capacity to ensure that local kids can get in, and don't have to be driven miles each day. It's a near-total fail. someone made these decisions, and they got paid for it. Edited November 29, 2023 by ads36

Regarding the shops etc, these get built by the private sector. All the council can do is make sure there is a suitable location for them. Same thing happened on the Mosborough “Townships”. For many years there wasn’t much in the way of shops or recreational facilities. Re the lack of pavements, some roads are shared surfaces but there are segregated footpaths around the estate, so you don’t necessarily need footways on the main feeder roads. Same arrangement is used in the Mosborough Townships. It has pluses and minuses.
