Sheffield Becoming A 15 Minute City

The Oxford scheme doesn't prevent you from driving to an area without a pass. It might encourage you to use the ring road to get there but it doesn't prevent you from driving there without a pass.

Making exaggerated (i.e. inaccurate) claims about something in an attempt to boost your argument undermines it rather than enhances it.

Where have I made an exaggerated or inaccurate claim?

We know all these trial schemes are taking place or are planned at various places in this country.   CAZ, Low traffic neighbourhood, and 15 minute cities.

We believe that most councils will try to implement them and to join them up with each other.

The reason being that, after having many years to do something about increasing traffic, air pollution etc. council and governments have done absolutely nothing.

They are now in a position where they have to catch up quickly and, as I keep saying, WE DON'T TRUST POLITICIANS.

If you want to put your faith in them, that's fine but, we will make our minds up without your help or interference..

i live about as far south in Sheffield as is possible.

and i do exactly that every day - there are even some people cycling past me  - i'm really not fast!

(it's 20mins on the way home, but it is uphill)

If it's so easy why do we not see all the Councillors doing it?

one of my local Councillors does - that i know of...

and a fair few council employees.

There are some horrible bits of road - riding back up Bocking Lane really doesn't feel safe!

(and the less said about Hutcliffe Wood rd the better - yikes!)

You don't think

I DO NOT ACCEPT BUS GATES WHICH ARE PUT IN PLACE TO KEEP US OUT OF AN AREA UNLESS WE HAVE A PASS.

is exaggerated? It certainly doesn't apply to the Oxford scheme. If you think it's not an exaggeration, please provide an example of such a scheme to demonstrate that it's not.

it's only 4miles, that's only 12mph - a leisurely pace!

Hmmm...

Now according to Mr Google...
... Meadowhead to city centre  via Hutcliffe Wood Road is 5.0 miles.

So either you DON'T live 'as far south as possible' or you're underestimating the distance to suit your argument.

Either way, at least one of those is clearly false!

I'll leave people to make their own minds up about any other claims you make...

... or if Mr Google is telling porkies!

I would have said that but you beat me to it.

ads36 is the one telling porkies.

I could give him cycle rides, which I used to do regularly,   that are only part way to the Town Hall which he could not do in 15 minutes.  guaranteed.

That is not what I said, if you read my posts properly.

As you don't appear to know how far a mile is, it doesn't make much difference anyway

If you would like to ride a route, which is only part way to  town,  to my home in 15 minutes, I would very much like to watch.

f you could do it, you would have to add another 10 minutes on to make it to the town hall but you would fail anyway.

Don't make me laugh.

Google Maps from the petrol station at the roundabout to Sheffield Town Hall is 4.1m if you change it to walking, which no doubt many bikes use the exact same route as cyclists love going on pavements.

No idea why he is adding a mile on going another way.

I hope you're NOT suggesting that Mr ads36 might work at the Town Hall? :hihi:
