cressida
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-scotland-64648879 - "Politics is brutal" One of the reasons that Nicola Sturgeon has announced her intention to resign, rather than quit straight away, is that her formal resignation starts an official timetable at Holyrood. As soon as her resignation letter is sent to the King, the Scottish Parliament has 28 days to elect a replacement first minister, or face another election. So Sturgeon will remain in post until her party chooses her successor as SNP Leader. The SNP's rule book states that candidates must have at least 100 nominations from party members from at least 20 local branches. The vote is run by postal ballot, on a one-person-one-vote basis. The timetable for that process is still to be agreed. But with a special conference to decide on whether to use an election as a de facto independence referendum due next month, time is tight. Some in the party have suggested the conference should be delayed until a new leader is in place. Mister M
Although I'm on the opposite side of the independence debate to her, no question that she's a formidable politician.
hauxwell
She did get on my nerves with her independence agenda. Sturgeon could be a very forceful politician at times. It wouldn’t surprise me if she stands as a candidate to become a MP at the next General Election.

I fully agree and would welcome her replacing either Sunak or Starmer. Yes, she has made mistakes but, who hasn't? She is head and shoulders above any of our lot despite only being a little lass. No lies, no messing about, just talk straight and get on with the job.

janie48
Although i haven't taken much interest in her political position lately, ive always had a lot of respect for Nicola Sturgeon, she always comes across as genuinely caring and dedicated. She was was also a good and loyal friend to the late politician Charles Kennedy when he was going through difficult times.
Pyrotequila
Good riddance, she always rubbed me the wrong way, such an annoying, single minded thing. News got switched off if her scowl made an appearance.

And not just for being vertically challenged.
