We Are Entering A New Puritanical Age (But Without The Religion)

Recommended Posts

We truly are entering a new puritanical age, but without the religion obviously.

I read an article the other day that really upset me, not for me but for my lad who has to grow up and make his way with the girls in this paranoid world we now live in.

It was one of these cases where a lad had been at a party and got into a drunken snog with a girl (consensual AFAIK) then when he tried putting his hand on her boob she, wanting to be a "Me Too martyr", then flipped her lid and went off on one about sexual assault. I suspect very strongly that any upset she felt was because she has been conditioned to think she should be upset...... Anyway, apparently he got suspended from school (though what has it even got to do with the school anyway ? ) and they even tried bringing the police in though, fortunately, I don't think it went anywhere

For Gawd's sake ! ! ! I am on record as predicting that sooner or later we will all have to sign consent forms for congress but the way it's going we'll even have to get one signed for a  drunken smoochy grope. Except, ironically, the form won't be valid anyway unless both participants have taken blood alcohol level tests ! So, no congress unless provably sober (that should result in a marked reduction in grunties for everyone, and a lower birth rate if nothing else).

I also predict that almost everyone will get together via websites for people after a partner because asking out a friend or work colleague is just getting too complicated and with too many opportunities for breakdowns in communication, with, it seems, potentially serious consequences.

What sort of society are we becoming ?

Life is certainly getting more complicated by the day.

'Being Offended' seems to be the new Religion these days, and legislation to try and counter it is tying people up in knots.

I honestly think there is a difference in accidently offending someone, and offending someone with intent, but how do you prove that is the case? Like the 'Hate' Laws, which are abysmally written, it is often down to interpretation, nevertheless the Lawyers must be rubbing their hands in glee.

I think 'paranoia' to varying degrees is now probably endemic in much of the population, and is so is mental anxiety.

I trust no one, which is very sad, but I think it's becoming the default setting.

Some people already don't have a life beyond social media.

And the Pandemic made that somewhat worse IMO.

I hope parents nowadays sit down with their young teenagers,  preferably boys and girls together so they can hear each others' point of view, and talk about why it's not alright to give out mixed messages.   It's not O.K. to lead somebody on then make a drama out of it.       Girls are being encouraged to see themselves as victims,  instead of equal participants in the game.      They both need to respect the opposite sex & understand that it's best to be clear about what's acceptable.

Let them join in with their opinions & experiences, then they'll all go away with something to think about & hopefully a new understanding  of each other.

This is very true.

We just came back from our hols in Gran Canaria, you're on the plane for 6 hrs odd (incl waiting for it to take off) and in the past many of the passengers would end up talking to each other and the kids playing with each other.

Not now.

They're mostly on their soddin' device, lives focused on that little screen.

I really do wonder where society will end up.

To be fair, anything that keeps kids quiet on flights gets two thumbs up from me.

I really do believe that people these days, esp minorities (although women aren't actually a minority anyway ! ) are being conditioned to look for upset. If it were not for "Me Too" and all that cobblers I am willing to bet that girl / woman would not have been upset by it, not to any significant degree anyway. She'd have just moved his hand and said "forget it, that's one step too far (tonight at any rate.....), it's not happening".

But now, she thinks she's fighting for women's justice.

Listen love, you're not Emily Pankhurst, you're a girl who has had a misunderstanding with a lad you were snogging. It's something and nothing, get over it......

It is indeed a fact that many parents are only too happy for their kids to be on devices so they don't have to put any effort into interacting with them. We were in a restaurant on our hols where the parents had both there kids on devices (even with headphones on ! ) whilst actually eating their meal. I was shocked.
