geotom Posted March 18, 2023 Share Posted March 18, 2023 In the late 60's, I, along with my mates, used to go to the Wharncliffe most Friday, Saturday and Monday nights. Ray Stuart was the regular DJ with bands playing most Saturday nights. I think Ray Stuart's band was Frankinstein and the Monsters and the only other band I can remember is Micky's Monkeys. If I remember , the Landlord was a Mr Gandy, and I seem to recall it was a Whitbread house. We had some great nights in the Wharncliffe back then. The Cannon Hall, Sicey Hotel, Shiregreen Hotel and The Penguine all had live bands playing at weekends and it was very rare there was any trouble, Good times.
