Failing Nhs

Anything Starmer says about the NHS can be dismissed in a stroke due to the way Labour in Wales has managed their NHS.

Whenever there's a serious issue in England, be it with the hospitals, waiting times or ambulances,  then Labour are all over it.

Yet when it happens in  Wales - nothing.  While Labour MPs today continue to throw mud at Braverman for her speeding, this happens

Wales might be Labour. but it still relies on funding from the government to pay for the NHS and its other services. If the government is starving it of cash like everywhere else Wales  won't have enough money to give a decent basic standard of service in hospitals or anything else.

Why don't we look at how the cash is wasted instead?

The only one of those which IMO supports your point is the £40m spent on diversity officers, although to be honest I'm not even sure what they do. Maybe that's just part of a bigger HR job spun for effect, who knows.

As for the others, not really an issue. Translation services for example are very necessary in some areas, and will include printing leaflets/ letters in a variety of languages, which while I dislike money being spent on it may be a legal requirement.

The failed music festival was an attempt to raise money. The way I look at is having to raise your own money to fund the NHS shouldn't be necessary.

The outsourcing of medical resources and services that then have to be bought back in, is actually  one of the biggest problems regarding NHS funding. Many of these outsourced agencies (owned by Tory pals) see the NHS as a cash cow and overcharge shamelessly. It costs the NHS billions. But as I was told by an NHS doctor, "We have no choice. They have is over a barrel so we have to pay it."

That's privatisation of the NHS for you.....

The Kings Fund also published this:

https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/sites/default/files/2023-04/Rise_and_Decline_of_the_NHS_April_2023.pdf

The rise and decline of the NHS in England 2000–20. How political failure led to the crisis in the NHS and social care

The story of decline

• Multi-year funding increases above the long-term average and a series of
reforms resulted in major improvements in NHS performance between 2000
and 2010.

• Performance has declined since 2010 as a result of much lower funding increases,
limited funds for capital investment, and neglect of workforce planning.

The graph below is all you need to see who is to blame for the current state of the NHS. Between 2010 and 2018 the Tories imposed the longest and deepest funding squeeze on the NHS in its history.

party-spending-over-time-ifs-e1529480480

And this is the result:

_109664346_optimised-a_and_e_wait-new-nc

_109664348_optimised-cancer_wait-new-nc.

_109664349_optimised-routine_wait-new-nc

_109664350_optimised-total_wait-new-nc.p

And all of this decline was before Covid. The NHS will never be safe in the hands of the Tories.

I never get the notion that if the NHS is privatised it has to be like the US version, there are plenty of semi private services in Europe that far eclipse the busted flush that is the NHS.

Belgium for instance has mutual insurance, you pay at point of service then claim most of it back, they have no waiting lists.

Thing is, that like France they don't pay National Insurance as well as Income Tax  - effectively the mutual is instead of NI, although you continue to pay into a mutual when retired.

The UK has far fewer hospital beds per head of population than Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands, Poland etc.............

Would a Starmer Labour party be the same as a Drakeford Labour party?

Was a Cameron Tory party the same as a Johnson Tory party, very different.

We follow the USA in everything like little lap dogs.

I don't know why either. There are plenty pf better models, but no, we slavishly follow US because of our 'Special Relationship' (which they apparently know nothing about....)
