At the risk of posting something rather mundane on this otherwise stimulating thread...
... but has anyone noticed a discrepancy in the number of digestive biscuits Aldi are now putting in their packets?

The packets are clearly marked as 400g, but the number of biscuits you get in a packet often varies.

Now before anyone starts, no I'm not the OCD obsessive type who counts the number of biscuits in a packet...
... it's just that I like to have a couple of biscuits with a cuppa, and I've noticed that most of the time I can finish a packet without any undue fuss, but sometimes there's only one left in the packet! :suspect:

And yes, I keep my digestive biscuits secure and safe from being tampered with by any inquisitive individuals, human or animal!

So either Mr Aldi is occasionally prone to losing count as he's filling the packets, or more likely, the weight of an individual biscuit varies so much that any standard deviation anomalies are compensated for by the weight of a single biscuit.

I've not taken my research any further at this moment in time, but obvious future investigations would include actually weighing each packet and not believing what's published on the wrapper, and of course, counting the number of biscuits in each packet to determine if a biscuit has been added, or as I suspect, surreptitiously removed...

Your thoughts?

I think you need to do a comprehensive and accurate survey of the biscuit numbers vs package weight and report your findings on here for us all to see and we can take the appropriate action.

I've noticed a varying number of product contained in some of their frozen stuff, the supposed pack weight remaining the same.

Also noticed a varying and increasing level of contempt for the customer experience of late.

Morrisons are winning on customer service at the moment, if you can stomach the inflated prices. Still stick rotten veg/fruit on the shelves though, like the others

I will do just that, Mr Melty!

I plan on weighing an individual biscuit (taken from a random position in the packet) and then multiplying that by the number of biscuits in the packet and comparing the result to the claimed 400g on the wrapper!

A nice spreadsheet of any deviations and a coloured graph will help me get my findings across to forum members!

And if I can whip up sufficient research funding, I'll also weigh each individual biscuit in a packet and plot the results as a pie chart!

So I'm not alone in this quest to uncover the sinister goings on in our supermarkets?

But as much as I'd like to help with your analysis of the frozen and chilled section, I think I'm going to be a bit too busy counting digestive biscuits to get involved in counting the number of peas in their frozen mixed vegetables!

count the calories per pack, it's easier to spot when they are playing games with the contents

Good evening Melty...

I can assure you that Mr. Bloke will definitely get to solve this equation...

He enters "Padders Bar" with a Hydrometer and Liquid measuring cup when ordering his Sambuca Cocktail, he then gets his Graph out and records the details..

If, at the end of the week he his one tenth of a raindrop short, he'll throw a hissy fit, and demand compensation.........

Interesting. They are advertised as 59g on that link, wonder if that's wrong or the change has only just happened?

While on subject, I bought (a few years ago) a 1 kg pack of raisens from Tesco.  I had just acquired some digital kitchen scales and the pack weighed something like 770g. Unfortunately, I had just slit the top of the packaging before I thought of weighing them. I am confident these scales are spot on as they tally precisely with the local post office when I take small packages.

If it was a one off I would let it go but if it happens again I would certainly put in a complaint, 230g out on a 1kg package is certainly well beyond reasonable tolerance imo.
