perhaps you should consider the obscene amount of effort and money required to get all those products into a building a couple of miles from your home, day in, day out.

I think you need some help if that comment is part of a reasoned debate on the cost of living.

Living up to your forum name once again.

you seem to have forgotten they can charge what they want for any product, you can shop elsewhere if that particular product seems expensive, as most sensible people do. The 'government' might want to concentrate on lowering the massive amount of tax that gets charged on petrol sales before playing the public with committees.

Supermarkets and petrol retail have low profit margins, buy shares if you're confident it's so lucrative.

You were trying to convince us that Supermarkets are keeping their prices down but you seem to have lost it now.

Then you blame the government,  a government that you keep defending,  for the prices.

The petrol retailers, especially supermarkets, obviously thought they would  pull a fast one on the public because their  profits are low.  Shows they can easily fool a fool.

So far this year three of the UK’s top four supermarkets, TESCO, Sainsbury’s and Asda have issued preliminary profit information for 2021-22. Once Morrison’s half year data is added, this creates collective profits of £4.08 billion. These four supermarkets cover 66.5% of the UK market. The Co-op, with 6% of the market has announced profits of £57 million for 2021 and Waitrose, with 4.8% of the market has announced £14.44m.

They are not low profits but no matter how low they are,  ripping off the public is still wrong.

Not sure where to post this, there are so many different threads. War in Ukraine, Conservatives, etc

Rishi wont be keeping his promise to halve inflation if Ukrainian wheat does get through. Inflation once again, but how much money will the Government give everyone this time?

Sunak won't be halving inflation anyway.

He made that promise 3 days after the Bank of England forecast that inflation would halve in six months.

He then sat  there waiting for the prophecy to take place so that he could claim the credit for it.

Sunak has taken no action at all to lower inflation. The Bank of England have kept raising interest rates to bring it down and that's it.

Unfortunately,  raising interest rates also puts people's mortgages up and they, together with those who borrow to invest,  are the ones who are paying for the recovery.

We need to be far more self sufficient in resources, especially food and utilities, so we can't be held to ransom by other countries as and when it suits them. Thatcher made a big mistake when she sold off our utilities, and ruined our manufacturing and farming industries.
