Which is exactly why the furlough scheme was a good idea, so even more people potentially didn't get very ill and die from the virus.

I have answered this here on the Covid thread.

I'm quite sure that the people who are hungry and cold have already accepted that they are poorer.

What he really means is "people should stop moaning about it"

When they are warm again,  and their bellies are full, they probably will

Don't know what it's got to do with him though.

There are not many people in this country who are hungry, and even fewer who are hungry but don't also smoke, or run a car, or drink, or have Sky TV etc etc

Cold yes maybe. But I though you environmental zealots wanted very expensive energy so as to help meet "nett zero" ? Because, make no mistake, that is the only way you will do it.

Don't ask for a pay rise.

Says the man on half a million quid yearly salary.

Yes and given he used to be a Goldman Sachs Banker, where he is in the income spread of the population, he can afford to forgo a pay rise.

This is worth reading on that issue:

It's true to say the UK has become worse off. But some have felt the brunt more than others (msn.com)

But lock down schemes were done poorly, almost intentionally.

Even our present and previous PM was fined.

Bank of England economist says people need to accept they are poorer

We are indeed significantly poorer, and if people don't just accept it will take years to get over this then we will end up in even deeper economic misery.

The Governor of the Bank of England has said similar.

But people tend to follow their leaders, the Government need to spell it out, Brexit has cost us 20%, the Ukraine war has cost us 20% and COVID has cost us 60%

They still need to set out a plan, the NHS can have a inflation pay rise, everyone else half of inflation. How would that plan work?

So 80 % not the Governments fault .
