pintor
All this long grass is looking terrible around our towns and villages now, this is to save money, anyone knows that, get some of these fit young men on benefits trained up and ready to cut all these borders back, pay them so much on top of their dole to work a couple of days a week, same with litter picking, get things cleaned up and put some pride back into our area, plus it looks a lot better to visitors

pintor
Where have all the guys who normally cut the grass gone?, have they laid them off, or are they paying them to put their feet up?

The standard uk council approach to grass cutting - every few weeks - is *ideal* for dandelions, hence they get everywhere. without trying (literally - zero effort!) our garden now has all sorts of things in it : teasels, foxgloves, alliums (of some kind), and a whole bunch of other stuff i don't know the names for (borrage, i think, and maybe even yellow rattle!) Findlay
There are lots of reasons to let the grass grow in May. There is a time though when it becomes dangerous near road junctions where drivers dont have the patience to stop and look properly. You can use the council contact form to let them know when the grass gets to a dangerous height.
Mossway
Can someone remind me of the French word for dandelion ?
Robin-H
Don’t worry - as long as you don’t eat them you won’t wet the bed.
