Artificial Intelligence (Ai) - Blessing Or A Curse?

Recommended Posts

The BBC Business news showed a report this morning from the Consumer Electronics Show currently on in Las Vegas.  AI is apparently the big thing this year with AI being put into everything.

A Samsung rep showed showed the reporter their new vacuum cleaner which has AI & demonstrated how it worked & how the vacuum automatically knew when it went from cleaning a hard floor to cleaning a carpet & tried to convince the reporter that this vacuum was a must & game changer.

No doubt this innovation will add a couple of hundred pounds to the price of the cleaner but we must get one.  After all, at the moment we have to use a thumb & press a button on our vacuum to change the sucking power.

Just think of the time & physical effort we'll save over the years not having to press that button.

It's hardly the rise of the machines is it.

In fairness, housewifes must welcome any invention that saves their thumbs from extra work as the graft from pressing the remote control to and fro from Loose women to the Kardashian show does take its toll.  Added to the fact that their thumbs are now doing extra work by pressing a button to wash dishes and clothes I think it's definitely a must have component for any modern family.

I take it that,  In Bundy's world,  no men ever watch TV,   wash dishes or clothes or ever use labour saving devices.

This wouldn't be a touch of misogyny creeping in would it ?         Of course not,  he'll say.

It's the stuff we don't know about, (and there's lots of it,) which is the problem. Drones that bomb used in warfare, guidance systems, machines that are almost impossible to turn off, (it's rather more than just pulling the plug out) and 'learning' AI being allowed to make decisions, all of which already exist.

We are becoming more and more dependent on AI in ways we hardly know about, and leaving it to it. Yet it is not foolproof or without its glitches. Heaven help us when it goes wrong...

If we don't know about it, how do we know there's lots of it?

You never answered the question -

I take it that,  In Bundy's world,  no men ever watch TV,   wash dishes or clothes or ever use labour saving devices ?

Misogyny again, coupled with lying too  -   only with the excuse he's only joking.

No.   I'll not ask whether you are because  you believe in hanging and nuking people.

But, what's that to do with it ?

Your quote is incomplete.  I edited it as you were posting.
