It was in the programme. It happened. Daughter told mother amid sobs that she'd been kidnapped.

It wasn't her daughter it was AI.

They tried to con her into giving them money.

no charges ... , no arrests, nothing.

What a load of cobblers that programme was...

... did anyone learn anything they didn't already know?

As I thought, it's just a 'catchall' term to group together a lot of technological wizardry... just advanced automation!

What's REALLY scarey is that a lot of people will be taken in by it as some sort of 'alien' super power.

The worrying question to ask is WHY has it suddenly got so much publicity?

And to anyone who says it's much more than automation, I would ask, at what point does automation become AI?

The answer I have is that automation becomes AI when you can interact with it in a natural way, such as writing or speaking, and you don't have to learn complex languages or procedures in order to 'communicate' with it.

So in reality, it's just a user friendly interface to a group of otherwise technical processes...

... a bit like when Windows OS replaced DOS! :hihi:That is already possible

That is already possible.  Somebody else  has already done the hard bit, the programming.

All you have to do is talk to it, and the more you talk to it the more it learns. It then puts 2+2 together and makes 5 and advances exponentially.

The internet has been collecting information on you for years. All the AI has to do is tap into that, and it knows you better than you do...

This isn't a text, it's a phone call using her voice. Much more convincing.

Did you not find the Zelensky video troubling? A video of him in person giving instructions to the Army in his voice?

Neither of which were him.

Surely you can see the potential problem...?

it's still useless, talk to any chatbot, waste of time, any automated phone system, self service tills, youtube ads that have no relevance, amazon expecting people to want to buy another new lawnmower, a week after the last one, abysmal supermarket search facilities.

the fact it was voice, reportedly, should make it far easier to spot. It's just sensationalist dribble. Do you really think you can have a voice conversation with someone you know, and not spot the difference between that and a computer program.

did that avatar fool you, or that robot, or video games, or films that spend millions on green screen production.

the real issue right now, is why are people so gullible, particularly in the things they read

True, but it's early days. Stuffs improving all the time.

That's like asking if the internet is a good thing

It seems the Scientists have just woken up to the fact that AI is a mixed blessing and we have to tread carefully.

I agree.  I've been watching quite a few documentaries about it, and it truly is amazing stuff but with inherent life changing consequencies . And it is proceeding at a break neck speed, so we have to use caution. However handled right, it could be the answer to a lot of our problems.

But the people we have to convince most are those that are using it at the moment, eg, the big super Corporations etc. They are proceeding with it to maximise profits with no precautions in place, and no interest in the unintended consequences. We have very little control over them so need them to engage in a long term futures debate to see where it will lead.

But in a society where greed prevails and money is all that matters, will they?

What do you think?

You can't spot the difference because it REALLY IS THEIR VOICE,  spoken exactly as they speak, with the same inflections and mannerisms.

Maybe you should give up trying to understand something which is beyond you.
