Recently I travelled by taxi from Alicante to a destination 40 miles away, and the A roads were race-track standard with exemplary signage; the minor/side roads were excellent too. Hangingwater Rd has huge chunks out of it on the steep bit. Mowbray street (surface) is collapsing, and there must be thousands of grates/manhole covers sinking below the road surface. Going up Halifax Rd beyond Lidl there is a series of raised ridges (possibly tree roots) which bounce cars/lorries up in the air, at least a change from dropping into potholes.
